GENIUS STUDIO

I believe that all my students are creative in some way. School, sometimes, undervalues individual creativity, passions, and interests for the sake of streamlining the learning experience. With projects and "Genius Hour", I hope to foster each child's interests so that they are more receptive to learning in other realms - I look forward to seeing where each learner's "genius" lies. It's a bit like mining for gold - you don't know when you will find it but the treasure is always worth the search.

DESIGNING LEARNING FOR

EVERY STUDENT

The new BCED plan mandates individualized education. We plan to accomplish this with project based learning along with authentic, personalized activities.

"Curriculum should offer increased flexibility to allow students to pursue their passions and interests and to enable different and individual ways of learning. The amount and nature of required learning should change as students progress from Kindergarten to Grade 12". (Click "VIEW MORE" for more on the BCED Plan)

  • Communication is the imparting or exchange of information, experiences, and ideas through language, symbols, movement, or images to build a common understanding.

  • Critical Thinking is focused on deciding what is reasonable to believe or do in a given situation.

  • Creative Thinking and Innovation is the process of generating and implementing new ideas.

  • Personal Responsibility and Well-being is taking responsibility for one’s actions, being self-regulating, making ethical decisions in complex situations, accepting consequences, and understanding how one's actions affect others. Among other things, this competency includes financial literacy.

  • Social Responsibility is being able to consider the perspective of and empathize with others, to recognize and appreciate diversity, to defend human rights, to solve problems in peaceful ways, and to contribute towards social, cultural, and ecological causes. Among other things, this competency includes collaboration.

This is my Twitter feed. This feed will be a summary of my thoughts and learning in 140 characters or less. Enjoy. Connect. Agree or Challenge. It's all part of the process.

DESIGNING

While I have many plans to engage the learners in my classes, many will be adapted based on the interests and skills present in the group of students.

WORK

Fish to climb a tree - Einstein.jpeg

I'm a big believer in students being experts in those areas that they are already interested in. I plan on finding ways to bring those interest into the classroom and using them to encourage students to grow further.

It's the follow through - Kettering.jpg

Students will need to stay focused and work very hard  in order to plan, execute, and complete their projects. It will be exciting to be the architect of some wonderful learning.
